Why does my portable DVD player no longer play my DVDs?

My portable Dvd player quit playing dvds and cds. Sometimes when we put a disk in it shows it's loading but never quits spinning. At other times it says "no disk". Sometimes it plays cds but when we change the disk to any other dvd or cd it will no longer play. If it's playing and we pause it, it starts back up with no problems. Can anyone help or am I better off buying a new one? This one is only a couple of months old but we threw away the box and don't have the reciept. Thanks for anything you can help me with. Yeah, we've cleaned it over and over hoping that that was the problem but no luck. Would it be cheaper just to get a new one?

1. try cleaning the laser and making sure the discs are clean. you might need a new player though.
2. Clean the lens buddy. When you open your disc cover to insert the disc, there should be lens that are almost see through and made of glass/plastic. Take a cloth and wipe it. If the DVD player still won't work, then I'm afraid that the lens are damaged.
